Biography

Peter Kassel's serene interior scenes recall 17th century Flemish genre painting. Rigorously composed with no superfluous elements, Kassel's settings are simple, they seem to be a pretext for his play of lines and light, his contrastd of brightness outside and semi-darkness inside his logically constructed compositions. His art lies in letting light into his pictures and transfiguring it with color, as one would make stained glass window.

Peter Kassel's work, intimist and yet open to the outside, fascinates us by the originality he brings to everyday life. The absence of figures in his paintings invites the spectator to stand at the threshold of these pictures, soaking up the diffused light, just right for reveries and flights of fancy.
